This legislation, titled the "DHS Basic Training Accreditation Improvement Act of 2025," requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to submit annual reports to relevant congressional committees. These reports must detail the accreditation status for each basic training program within the Department of Homeland Security, including initial accreditation dates, reasons for non-accreditation, and anticipated timelines for achieving it. The reporting requirement will terminate once all basic training programs within the Department are fully accredited. The bill further stipulates that if a basic training program loses its accreditation, the head of the relevant DHS component must notify the Secretary within 30 days. Subsequently, the Secretary must inform Congress within 30 days of receiving such notification, providing the reason for the lapse and the activities planned to regain accreditation. Additionally, the Under Secretary for Science and Technology is directed to conduct research and development on systems and technologies to improve access to Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers for state, local, tribal, and territorial law enforcement, particularly in rural and remote communities, to enhance domestic preparedness against security threats.
