This legislation seeks to enhance the Department of Veterans Affairs' handling of claims related to military sexual trauma (MST) by improving training and assistance. It mandates that all VA employees who process, communicate about, or decide MST claims receive annual sensitivity training , which must be appropriate for their experience level and updated yearly. The Secretary of Veterans Affairs is also required to submit a report within 90 days detailing current training and future plans to implement these new requirements. Furthermore, the bill expands the VA's duty to assist claimants by explicitly requiring the Secretary to obtain both service personnel and service medical records for MST compensation claims. It also directs the Secretary to report on sensitivity training for contracted health care professionals who conduct examinations for MST claims. This report must include a plan to improve such training and ensure veterans are not retraumatized during these examinations.
