This legislation, known as the "Feed Hungry Veterans Act of 2025," aims to significantly expand eligibility for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits for disabled veterans. It achieves this by amending the Food and Nutrition Act of 2008 to broaden the definition of who qualifies as a disabled veteran for program purposes. The bill specifically includes veterans with a single service-connected disability rated at 60 percent or higher, or those with two or more service-connected disabilities with a combined rating of 70 percent or higher, provided one is at least 40 percent. Additionally, it extends eligibility to veterans determined to be catastrophically disabled and those under 65 receiving a specific pension for non-service-connected disabilities. These expanded categories of disabled veterans will be exempt from certain SNAP eligibility requirements, making it easier for them to access crucial food assistance. The provisions of this Act are scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2030.
