It mandates that the President may only remove an Inspector General based on specific, documented grounds, thereby strengthening their independence and oversight capabilities. The enumerated grounds for removal include documented permanent incapacity , neglect of duty, malfeasance, or conviction of a felony. Other specified reasons are documented knowing violation of law, gross mismanagement, gross waste of funds, abuse of authority, or inefficiency, all of which must be included in the removal communication.
