REDI Act

This legislation, known as the "Resident Education Deferred Interest Act" or "REDI Act," proposes to amend the Higher Education Act of 1965 . Its primary goal is to establish a new provision for student loan borrowers who are actively participating in a medical or dental internship or residency program. Under this amendment, eligible borrowers would qualify for an interest-free deferment on their student loans. This means that during their internship or residency, they would not be required to make periodic principal payments, and crucially, no interest would accrue on their outstanding loan balance. This measure is designed to provide significant financial relief to medical and dental residents during a critical training period.
