This bill mandates the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to provide financial relief to State homes by either reimbursing them for or directly furnishing specific costly medications . This provision applies to veterans who are receiving nursing home care in these State homes. The Secretary of Veterans Affairs must comply with this directive at the election of the State home. A medication is deemed "costly" if its average wholesale price for a one-month supply, including a 3 percent transaction fee, surpasses 8.5 percent of the VA's monthly payment to the State home for the veteran's care. A covered State home is defined as one that provides nursing home care under a contract and furnishes such a costly medication to a veteran.
