This bill, known as the Securities and Exchange Commission Real Estate Leasing Authority Revocation Act, aims to centralize real estate leasing for the SEC. It specifically revokes the Securities and Exchange Commission's independent authority to lease general purpose office space, effective upon the bill's enactment. Going forward, the General Services Administration (GSA) will assume responsibility for leasing office space on behalf of the SEC, though existing leases entered into by the SEC prior to enactment remain valid. Furthermore, the legislation directs the Comptroller General of the United States to conduct a comprehensive review of independent leasing authorities held by various federal entities. This review will update a 2016 report, focusing on the extent to which these authorities have been rescinded or amended, agencies' utilization of GSA for leasing, and progress made on previous recommendations.
