This legislative proposal, known as the Medicaid Provider Screening Accountability Act , seeks to strengthen oversight within the Medicaid program by amending Title XIX of the Social Security Act. Beginning January 1, 2028, states will be mandated to perform additional screenings during a provider's enrollment, reenrollment, or revalidation process, and at least monthly for all enrolled providers. These checks involve consulting federal and state databases to identify providers whose participation has been terminated from Medicare (Title XVIII) , Medicaid (Title XIX) , or the Children's Health Insurance Program (Title XXI) in any state. The bill's objective is to prevent providers with a history of termination from participating in the Medicaid program, thereby enhancing program integrity and accountability.
