Forest Service Accountability Act

This bill mandates a significant change in the appointment process for the Chief of the Forest Service. Under its provisions, the President will now be responsible for appointing the Chief, subject to the advice and consent of the Senate , departing from the current method. To ensure qualified leadership, the bill stipulates that any individual appointed to this role must possess substantial experience and demonstrated competence in forest and natural resources management. Furthermore, any nomination submitted to the Senate will be jointly referred to both the Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources for review. This legislation also requires the President to submit a nomination within 30 days of enactment, even if an individual is already serving as Chief.
