This legislation mandates the Secretary of Commerce to undertake a comprehensive study within one year of enactment, focusing on the domestic manufacturing of products essential for critical infrastructure sectors . The study's primary goal is to identify high-demand products currently imported due to U.S. manufacturing or supply chain constraints. It will also analyze the economic benefits and costs, including impacts on jobs and product prices, associated with manufacturing these items in the United States. Furthermore, the study will pinpoint specific products that could feasibly be manufactured domestically and assess the viability and impediments to producing them in rural areas , industrial parks, or rural industrial parks. Within 18 months of enactment, the Secretary must submit a detailed report of these findings and recommendations to Congress. This report will also be made publicly accessible on the Department of Commerce website, aiming to inform strategies for strengthening domestic critical infrastructure supply chains.
