Natural GAS Act of 2025

The Natural Gas Appliances Standards Act of 2025 proposes amendments to the Energy Policy and Conservation Act, specifically targeting energy efficiency standards for natural gas appliances. It mandates new requirements for rulemaking processes concerning water heaters , furnaces , boilers , and kitchen cooktops, ranges, and ovens . For any future rule, the Secretary must conduct a full fuel cycle analysis for energy efficiency standards and certify that the rule will not lead to a significant shift from gas to electric alternatives in residential or commercial settings. Moreover, these new rules will not apply to small major household appliance manufacturers , providing an exemption for smaller businesses. The bill also requires that the results of the full fuel cycle analysis and its energy descriptor be prominently disclosed on consumer-facing energy efficiency labels at the point of sale. Uniquely for kitchen cooktops, ranges, and ovens , the legislation prohibits any new rule from limiting the features and functionality available on residential gas models, including aspects like quick-to-boil times or burner designs.
