Strengthening Coast Guard Communities Act of 2026

This bill, titled the "Strengthening Coast Guard Communities Act of 2026," aims to enhance the Coast Guard's ability to secure essential services for its installations. It achieves this by amending title 46, United States Code, to specifically grant the Commandant of the Coast Guard the authority to enter into intergovernmental support agreements.

This new authority allows the Commandant to utilize the same mechanisms available to other military departments under section 2679 of title 10 for obtaining installation-support services from state or local governments. To ensure oversight, the bill mandates that the Commandant provide written notification to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation and the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure within 60 days of exercising this authority, including a description of any agreement made.
