Drone Safety Statement Modernization Act

This bill, known as the Drone Safety Statement Modernization Act, requires manufacturers of small unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) to provide a comprehensive safety statement to initial operators. Upon first activation, operators must electronically acknowledge that they have read and understood this statement, thereby ensuring they are fully aware of their operational responsibilities and potential risks.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is tasked with developing, maintaining, and periodically revising the requirements for this safety statement. The statement must include crucial information such as applicable laws and regulations for UAS operation, details on airspace restrictions and approved methods for determining lawful operation, recommendations for safe use, and potential consequences for unsafe or unlawful operation, including FAA enforcement actions. Within 120 days of enactment, the FAA must also issue an example safety statement, though manufacturers are not obligated to use it. The FAA Administrator is further required to review and revise these safety statement requirements and the example statement annually, beginning 18 months after the bill's enactment, to ensure they remain current and effective.
