Telecommunications GAP Act

This bill, known as the Telecommunications GAP Act , mandates that the Comptroller General of the United States submit a comprehensive report to Congress. This report, due within 180 days of the Act's enactment, will focus on the Federal Communications Commission's Mandatory Disaster Response Initiative . The initiative refers to specific requirements for facilities-based mobile wireless providers during emergency and disaster situations, as outlined in 47 CFR 4.17. The report is required to include a detailed analysis of the Initiative's overall effectiveness, alongside a specific evaluation of its performance during the January 2025 California wildfires . Furthermore, it must identify any shortcomings related to coverage, roaming, or provider coordination under the Initiative, and the Comptroller General is also tasked with providing concrete recommendations to enhance the program's efficacy and address identified gaps.
