Kids Safety on Set Act of 2026
United States119th CongressHR-10249House of Representatives
Updated: Sep 3, 2026
Summary
This legislative proposal aims to enhance the safety of minors involved in entertainment industry projects by mandating criminal background checks for specific personnel. These checks are required for any individual who holds supervisory duties , possesses compulsory authority , or will have frequent or private interaction with minors who are not their biological children or legal wards. The background screening is narrowly focused, specifically looking for offenses related to sex, violence, stalking, or minors , and the cost, capped at $100, must be borne by the entertainment industry entity. To ensure compliance, the bill establishes significant penalties for entertainment industry entities that violate these provisions. The Attorney General is empowered to seek a civil monetary penalty of up to twice the total production cost of the project involving the non-compliant employee. Furthermore, the Attorney General can obtain a temporary restraining order and subsequent injunctions to immediately halt all project production activity until the employee is no longer in violation or is terminated, and holds no significant beneficial ownership interest or special investor rights in the project.
