This legislation mandates the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to conduct a comprehensive review of existing regulations and guidance concerning peptides . The Secretary must establish appropriate definitions for "peptide" and "peptide-based therapy" for the Act's purposes, considering recent research developments. A report summarizing these findings and definitions must be submitted to Congress within 180 days of enactment. Following this initial review, the Secretary is directed to carry out an 18-month study on the safety, efficacy, and potential therapeutic benefits of peptide-based therapies for veterans receiving VA care. This study will examine applications for conditions such as recovery, chronic pain, and mental health. If the study concludes that these therapies should be provided, the Secretary must then establish a 5-year pilot program to make them available to participating veterans and assess their results. Upon completion of both the study and the pilot program, detailed reports with findings, recommendations, and guidance for potential large-scale implementation will be submitted to Congress.
