SHIELD Act

This bill, known as the School Health and Instructional Environment Limits and Disclosure Act (SHIELD Act), amends the General Education Provisions Act to impose new requirements on local educational agencies. Specifically, it mandates that these agencies must notify parents before distributing or disseminating any information regarding abortion or abortion-related services to students. Furthermore, the legislation introduces a prohibition preventing any organization that provides abortions, or its subsidiaries, from distributing or disseminating information about abortion or abortion-related services to students. This restriction applies to both physical school grounds and virtual platforms, including social media. The bill defines "abortion-related service" as any medical, surgical, or support care directly related to terminating a pregnancy.
