SOUND Pesticide Research Act

This bill, titled the "Scientific Oversight for Unbiased and Neutral Data in Pesticide Research Act," aims to amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to strengthen the scientific basis for pesticide chemical residue toxicity determinations. It specifically directs the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to rely on comprehensive data derived from multigenerational reproductive toxicity studies, requiring these studies to include not fewer than four generations of test species when establishing or modifying pesticide tolerances or exemptions. The legislation further mandates that within 180 days of enactment, the EPA Administrator must review all existing pesticide tolerance and exemption determinations to ensure they are supported by data meeting these new multigenerational study requirements. Additionally, the EPA is required to submit a report to Congress within two years, detailing any determinations that were updated or changed as a direct result of these amendments, thereby enhancing scientific oversight in pesticide regulation.
