TRANS Government Research Act

This bill, known as the "TRANS Government Research Act," aims to prohibit the use of Federal funds for any research that studies the effects of gender-related medical treatment. Specifically, it states that no Federal funds may be made available, directly or indirectly, to conduct, support, or fund "covered research." This "covered research" is broadly defined to include studies on the effects of gender-related medical treatment or any other means of altering a person's body or physical appearance to no longer correspond to their biological sex. Such alterations encompass disrupting natural development, inhibiting natural functions, and modifying physical appearance or attire. The legislation provides detailed definitions for key terms, including "gender-related medical treatment" and "sex." "Gender-related medical treatment" is extensively defined for both individuals identified as female and male. For females, it includes medical treatments addressing the perception of not being female, such as numerous surgical procedures like vaginectomy, hysterectomy, and phalloplasty, as well as exogenous testosterone and puberty blockers. Similarly, for males, it covers treatments addressing the perception of not being male, encompassing surgeries like penectomy, orchiectomy, and vaginoplasty, along with exogenous estrogen and puberty blockers. The bill defines "sex" as the biological determination of whether an individual is male or female, based on their reproductive system.
