Task Force on the Impact of the Affordable Housing Crisis Act of 2026

This bill establishes the Task Force on the Impact of the Affordable Housing Crisis , a bipartisan body charged with a critical mission. Its primary purpose is to thoroughly evaluate and quantify the extensive impact that a lack of affordable housing has on various aspects of life and individual outcomes across the United States. The Task Force will also quantify the financial costs incurred by existing Federal, State, and local programs due to this pervasive issue, aiming to provide a comprehensive understanding of the problem. Composed of 18 members appointed by congressional leadership, the Task Force will include academic researchers and experts in relevant fields. These members are tasked with producing a comprehensive report utilizing available data to detail the effects of housing shortages on areas such as education, employment, health, and regional economic growth. The report will also outline the costs to other programs and provide specific recommendations to Congress on how affordable housing can be leveraged to improve federal program effectiveness and overall life outcomes. After soliciting public comment, the Task Force will submit its final report to key congressional committees and will terminate two years after all its members are appointed.
