Her dedication to her family involved orchestrating 29 cross-country moves over 44 years. As Second Lady, Barbara Bush revitalized the vice presidential residence and began championing public literacy to combat poverty. During her time as First Lady , she continued this work by establishing the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy and playing a significant role in the passage of the National Literacy Act of 1991.
